The Back Story

There are musical acts that have a long and storied history. Some acts are as famous for their break-ups as their time together. Corporate manufactured groups churning out Top 40 tunes. And “Duets” projects that record company execs think up with the hopes that the more famous names they add-on the jacket sleeve the more dollars people will spend. And then there is Knechtel and McLean.

Richard Knechtel, the former Artistic Director of the Summerfolk Music and Crafts Festival and respected singer songwriter joined forces with Rob McLean a music director and writer/producer when they had run out of other people to play with. Knecthel had just left his Summerfolk position after five years and McLean had burned through a career as a sideman to a list of singer songwriters and bands and as a producer of well, anything that needed produced. When taking inventory they found that between the two of them they had thousands of hours of stage time, countless songs and two jokes. At this point they had nothing to lose. It was either steal a car and start robbing liquor stores or make some music.

Since getting together one day to play some tunes and see what would happen they have collaborated on Knechtel’s two CD Christmas project, McLean’s instrumental album, a TV show, a bunch of gigs and a performance in your town soon.
